Who we are

Supporting genocide survivors, preserving memory & promote a world free of genocide.

Ibuka USA was born out of necessity—to give survivors a voice in the United States and beyond. Many survivors have faced not only the trauma of the genocide but also the challenges of displacement, isolation, and starting over in new countries. Ibuka USA provides a community and support for those now living far from Rwanda. We are dedicated to ensuring that the legacies of those who perished are honored through continued advocacy, survivor support programs, and public education.

Our Vision:

A world where survivors are supported, justice is served, and the memory of the genocide against the Tutsi is preserved to prevent future genocides.

Our members

Ibuka USA unites diverse members who share a common mission of remembrance, healing, and justice, and we are grateful to have you on this journey with us. If you haven’t joined yet, we warmly welcome you. However, we do not accept individuals who have committed genocide or other crimes against humanity.

Genocide Survivors

Genocide Survivors are individuals who endured the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. They faced unimaginable horrors, including persecution, violence, and the loss of loved ones. Their resilience and survival are testaments to their strength, and their memories serve as powerful reminders of the atrocities. By sharing their stories, they ensure that future generations never forget and help prevent such horrors from recurring.

Extended Survivors

Extended Survivors are those whose families fled Rwanda before the genocide or children of genocide survivors. Though not directly experiencing the violence, they carry the trauma and memories of loss. Connected to the past through family pain, they work to preserve the memory of those lost and advocate for justice, making them vital to generational healing and remembrance.

Individual Partners

Individual Partners are those who, though not directly affected by the genocide, stand in solidarity with survivors. They contribute their time, resources, and expertise to support Ibuka USA’s mission. Their dedication to remembrance, justice, and education helps amplify survivors’ voices and ensure the lessons of the 1994 genocide are heard, preventing future atrocities.

Organization Partners

Organization Partners are companies, nonprofits, and institutions that align with Ibuka USA’s mission. Through their contributions of resources, expertise, and outreach, they play a vital role in supporting survivors, promoting justice, and educating global audiences about the lessons of the 1994 genocide, helping to prevent future crimes against humanity.

Our Commitment to Neutrality.

While our advocacy includes working with organizations and governments, we maintain strict neutrality and independence from political affiliations or influence. This ensures we remain dedicated to our core mission of memory preservation, advocating for survivors, justice, and raising awareness of genocide.
