New Leadership to Advance Survivor Support, Memory, and Financial Sustainability

In an exciting step toward a brighter future, Ibuka USA proudly introduces its new leadership team, elected by the General Assembly to guide the organization through its next chapter. These new leaders are committed to the organization’s core mission of supporting genocide survivors, preserving the memory of those we lost, and advocating for justice and healing.

This team embodies the values that Ibuka USA holds dear—resilience, community, and compassion—and brings a wealth of experience to ensure the organization continues its vital work. Their focus will be on strengthening survivor support systems, raising awareness about the genocide, and creating programs that directly benefit Ibuka USA members.

Marcel Mutsindashyaka, the newly elected President of Ibuka USA, expressed his gratitude to the members: “Leading this organization requires courage and determination, but it is also an honor to represent resilient individuals who have survived the unimaginable. We will continue to ensure that the memory of those we lost remains alive, and that survivors are supported in every way.”

Priorities of the New Leadership:

  1. Memory and Genocide Awareness: Strengthening initiatives that preserve the memory of those lost during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, while raising global awareness of the tragedy.
  2. Financial Sustainability: Restructuring Ibuka USA to ensure financial stability, enabling the organization to achieve its long-term goals.
  3. Member Programs: Creating and expanding programs that directly benefit members, providing emotional, psychological, and financial support to survivors.
