On September 6, 2024, Ibuka USA donated close to $8,000 to AVEGA Agahozo, a Rwandan organization that supports survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. This donation, made in honor of Kwibuka 30, will be used to renovate and build shelters for vulnerable widows who lived through the genocide.

The goal of this contribution is to ensure that these widows have safe and comfortable homes. By helping to improve their living conditions, we hope to offer not just shelter, but also a sense of dignity and security for those who have faced unimaginable challenges.

AVEGA has shared their gratitude to the Ibuka USA community for this generous support during such an important commemoration year. A full report, along with photos, will be provided once the project is completed, showing the impact this donation has made on the lives of these widows.

This donation reaffirms Ibuka USA’s commitment to standing with survivors and honoring their resilience. It will make a real difference in the lives of these women, helping them to move forward as part of the ongoing remembrance of Kwibuka 30.
